Game #3 tonight – Leafs vs. Pens

Posted: October 13, 2010 in Hockey

Tonight’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins should be a great test of what the team is really made of this year. Over the first two games, we have seen a glimmer of hope that we have a team that plays as one. The first game against the Canadiens was a bit sloppy, but they definitely turned it up a notch against the Ottawa Senators a couple nights later. Pittsburgh has not had the greatest start, but we’ll see if the boys in blue are ready to match up against Sid, Malkin, Staal & Co.

All I can say for now is…

I had to chuckle just a few minutes ago. Recently, when we added Kyle to our wireless Family Plan through Rogersย Lori changed to a BlackBerry Curve since she really wasn’t fond of her existing phone (LG something-or-other). At first, she didn’t have much interest in learning all the powerful things a ‘Berry could do for her, but I got some apps set up and I also set up a BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) Group for us so that we could share a calendar primarily.

So just a few minutes ago I check my BlackBerry Torch, and see there are some BBM updates…well lo and behold, Lori has added several calendar items in our shared BBM calendar! I’m so glad to see it – now we know what evenings the other is up to something; or I know what days she is working different hours…so handy!

Welcome to the mobile world Schmoop! ๐Ÿ™‚

Phaneuf presented as CaptainSo the 2010/11 NHL season is almost upon us. The Leafs start their new season on Thursday against none other than Montreal. With Dion Phaneuf named as Captain, that’s one gap filled that the team has had for the last two seasons – a leader on the ice.

Has the team improved over last year? I think so…goaltending should be much more stable at the very least. They have lots of depth on the blue line. The burning question that is keeping me up at nights (ok well not really) is whether the forward lines are going to be able to find the back of the oppositions’ net on a consistent basis. If the pre-season games were any indication (and I realize that one should not read too much into those), I do get the feeling that the Leafs are going to be able to score. I also saw some improved special teams…the Power Play and Penalty Kill were much more solid than the attempts last season, and I’m sure I’m not alone in hoping that it wasn’t just “pre-season luck”!

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to the new season. I also start my hockey season on Wednesday night with a new team and league, so hoping that is as fun as in the past!

Pretty Relaxing Weekend

Pretty uneventful weekend overall…Saturday was cold…was nice to see Sunday warm up and the sun was a nice touch! Bowling went well for the boys with Brandon getting his 450 Triple (by one pin) finally, and Kyle started off with a 238…enough to get him third place for Men’s single high score.
After lunch, the boys and I had a fun session of D&D with the Gergeleys…at our house this time.
Sunday was GEMS Sunday at church so Lori had to participate with her group of girls (she’s a counselor this year). Kyle came home early from a friends’ sleepover birthday party with a pretty bad cold…slept it off for most of the afternoon.
Right now, Lori and I are closing out the day watching the Chinese Grand Prix (which we PVR’d) and then it’s another busy work week for both of us.

Happy 13th Birthday Kyle!

We have our first teenager in the house (should we be afraid?)!

Happy birthday bud! Hope you have a great day. We’re proud of the young man you’re becoming. Keep on growing and you can do anything you put your mind to!

Lesson learned by Kyle

Last night, Kyle had his first real run-in with a dentist. He had a pretty bad cavity and the dentist pulled the tooth right away.

He did well, though. The freezing wore off at around 9PM last night and it was a bit tender then, but otherwise, no complaints.

I am pretty sure I heard him preaching the benefits of properly brushing ones’ teeth to Brandon this morning…I’d say lesson learned there ๐Ÿ™‚

Bowling today…oh, and the new fridge

Today we’re at bowling with the boys. Great start for both on game #1…Kyle with a 176 and Bran with 129. It’s going slow today, though. As we have a new boy that has never bowled before…he started out with 21 fouls in his first game…never seen that before. Oh well, we all start somewhere and he had fun.

We’ll be picking up our new fridge after we’re done at the lanes, so there’s the afternoon’s job planned.

Then it’s hockey for me tonight and tomorrow afternoon…back to back games…this should be fun LOL
