Game #3 tonight – Leafs vs. Pens

Posted: October 13, 2010 in Hockey

Tonight’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins should be a great test of what the team is really made of this year. Over the first two games, we have seen a glimmer of hope that we have a team that plays as one. The first game against the Canadiens was a bit sloppy, but they definitely turned it up a notch against the Ottawa Senators a couple nights later. Pittsburgh has not had the greatest start, but we’ll see if the boys in blue are ready to match up against Sid, Malkin, Staal & Co.

All I can say for now is…

GO LEAFS GO!!

I had to chuckle just a few minutes ago. Recently, when we added Kyle to our wireless Family Plan through Rogers Lori changed to a BlackBerry Curve since she really wasn’t fond of her existing phone (LG something-or-other). At first, she didn’t have much interest in learning all the powerful things a ‘Berry could do for her, but I got some apps set up and I also set up a BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) Group for us so that we could share a calendar primarily.

So just a few minutes ago I check my BlackBerry Torch, and see there are some BBM updates…well lo and behold, Lori has added several calendar items in our shared BBM calendar! I’m so glad to see it – now we know what evenings the other is up to something; or I know what days she is working different hours…so handy!

Welcome to the mobile world Schmoop! 🙂

Phaneuf presented as CaptainSo the 2010/11 NHL season is almost upon us. The Leafs start their new season on Thursday against none other than Montreal. With Dion Phaneuf named as Captain, that’s one gap filled that the team has had for the last two seasons – a leader on the ice.

Has the team improved over last year? I think so…goaltending should be much more stable at the very least. They have lots of depth on the blue line. The burning question that is keeping me up at nights (ok well not really) is whether the forward lines are going to be able to find the back of the oppositions’ net on a consistent basis. If the pre-season games were any indication (and I realize that one should not read too much into those), I do get the feeling that the Leafs are going to be able to score. I also saw some improved special teams…the Power Play and Penalty Kill were much more solid than the attempts last season, and I’m sure I’m not alone in hoping that it wasn’t just “pre-season luck”!

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to the new season. I also start my hockey season on Wednesday night with a new team and league, so hoping that is as fun as in the past!
